The word periodontal means “around the tooth”. Periodontal disease attacks the gums and the bone that support the teeth. Plaque is a sticky film of food debris, bacteria, and saliva. If plaque is not removed, it turns into calculus (tartar). When plaque and calculus are not removed, they begin to destroy the gums and bone. Periodontal disease is characterized by red, swollen, and bleeding gums.
Four out of five people have periodontal disease and don’t know it! Most people are not aware of it because the disease is usually painless in the early stages.
Not only is it the number one reason for tooth loss, research suggests that there may be a link between periodontal disease and other diseases such as, stroke, bacterial pneumonia, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and increased risk during pregnancy. Researchers are determining if inflammation and bacteria associated with periodontal disease affects these systemic diseases and conditions. Smoking also increases the risk of periodontal disease.
Good oral hygiene, a balanced diet, and regular dental visits can help reduce your risk of developing periodontal disease.

"I have been going to this dentist off for at least two years now. The staff is always very nice and helpful. The office and equipment is very clean. Dr. Chong is a great dentist and always very personable."
"I've been going to Dr. Chong for about the last twenty years. I once tried another dentist because they were closer to where I lived. I was having some soreness and inflammation in my lower front gum and this new dentist said I needed a root canal. I decided to get a second opinion, so I went see Dr. Chong again. He said all I probably needed was a deep cleaning of the area. He was right. The problem never returned. I wouldn't even think about going to another dentist now. Dr. Chong is a consummate professional."
"Dr. Chong has been our family dentist for several years now. He is great with the teenagers - encouraging them to take care of their teeth for life and educating them on the best dental practices at home. We appreciate the reasonable prices for his services. He is always running on time and is friendly and professional. A big thank you from the grandchildren and great grandchildren of a former dentist!"
"Dr Chong has always done excellent work on my teeth. I've been a patient since 2000) I have always felt like a valued client and received dedicated attention."
